Why would God demand a sacrifice?

I’m wondering if a better question might be why wouldn’t God demand a sacrifice. We have all kinds of idioms around hard work and sacrifice in our culture…about putting in the work in order to see results; about sacrificing sleep, money, family time in order to get ahead. Clearly we are willing to sacrifice…but why does it feel different when it comes to our faith? Do we expect a reward for our sacrifice…and if we do, does that make it less of a sacrifice? Looks like maybe each of us has to take some time to ponder the nature of sacrifice in our lives and in our faith. – Pastor Trudy Stoffel
