Why is holy week called ‘holy’?

Let’s start with a simple definition of holy- ‘set apart for God.’   Then we can remember together a whole variety of people and situations in the Bible that are absolutely ‘holy’ but defy us labeling them ‘good’ or ‘bad’.  Like the crossing of the Red Sea on dry land in Exodus.  It was terrifying, powerful and led into the unknown.  And holy.  Or King David.  Flawed, repentant, complex and absolutely set apart for God…and holy.  The events leading up to Jesus’ death on the cross; clarifying, unfair, heartbreaking and holy.   It is not easy to reframe the most difficult times in our lives as holy, but it is often the time we feel God most profoundly.  – Pastor Trudy Stoffel
