Every week we see the slides before worship and one of them says, ‘Ten percent of our offerings go beyond our doors.’ Simply put, we are invited to think of what we have as ‘What God has entrusted to us’ rather than ‘ours’. It changes our perspective on the things that pass through our hands. As a church, we can see real impacts in our community from Local Generosity (2%) of our income. We can also reach far beyond our community with up to 8% going to the ELCA so we can be part of the work that is happening to share Christ’s love around the world through hospitals, disaster relief, and more. Geneva Lutheran Council has recently voted to send some of the 8% to St. Andrew Lutheran Church in West Chicago to support their bilingual ministry in the way that only neighbors can. This is the way we are all called to live, pondering what we do with what God has entrusted to us… as individuals and as a church. – Pastor Trudy Stoffel
