A ‘saint’ is someone set apart for God’s purposes. In our Lutheran tradition, we proclaim that we don’t become saints by doing a lot of good things. We proclaim that we ARE saints because Jesus sets us apart and makes us holy. There is a big word for this: Sanctification. On All Saints (which falls on November 1, but we observe it on the closest Sunday), we celebrate especially the saints who have died. We light candles to remember the light they shared with us and sing songs about our ultimate homecoming where we will join these saints at home with God. – Pastor Trudy Stoffel
