It is important to note that Jesus doesn’t offer to lift the burden completely and take it away. He offers to share it with a yoke that distributes the weight more evenly. This may help us to set realistic expectations for what it will look like for Jesus to ‘come alongside’. Once we know that Jesus won’t just take our burden, maybe we will be able to better see the people Jesus is sending us to help us through.
