Michelle Lata shared in the children’s message last Sunday that she is going back to school, specifically to seminary, to become a deacon (also known as a Minister of Word and Service). The good news is she can learn and apply her learning right here at Geneva Lutheran (including an internship) and continue to work here when it is completed. Unlike pastors (Ministers of Word and Sacrament), deacons have a much wider variety of calls – doing everything from children and family ministry to finances to developing lay leadership to outreach. Michelle received a full scholarship for tuition and another scholarship that will cover books and periodic trips to St. Paul for cohort learning.
