Pentecost is a Jewish festival that happens 50 days after Passover. Originally it was a celebration of the harvest and commemorated the earliest covenants (promises) between God and his people from the book of Genesis. It evolved over time to become a day celebrating the law. All the disciples were gathered together to celebrate that old version of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came upon them in a very powerful way in the second chapter of the book of Acts. Christians today celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit 50 days after Easter. It is a reminder that God is bigger than our imaginations can fully contain and the Holy Spirit is a unique expression of God’s creative work in the world and in our lives. – Pastor Trudy Stoffel
