About Our Serving Groups
Serving together makes a difference in our community but also is one way our faith becomes real. As we work, we get to know each other, too.
St. Andrew Food Distribution
Geneva Lutheran serves at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in West Chicago supporting and assisting with weekly emergency food distributions. GLC volunteers gather each Friday afternoon at St. Andrew to unpack and break down boxes, sort non-perishables, assemble produce bags and bag rice and beans for the next day’s distribution. GLC also leads the distribution once every four to five weeks by supplying an abundance of volunteers to pack 350+ bags of non-perishables to go along with 350+ bags of fresh produce and safely load all into the cars of those in need. GLC is grateful to partner with St. Andrew and other area churches to sustain this timely and essential community outreach. Contact Julie Slifka for more information.
Hand-make cards for GLC members for 70+ birthdays, new babies, holidays, and more! Contact Sally Harmon for more information.
Prayer Shawls are lovingly knit or crocheted, blessed, and wrapped around the shoulders of someone who needs comfort. Baby blankets and pocket prayer squares are also knit or crocheted for anyone in the congregation or to give to someone they know. Whether you are experienced with knitting or crocheting or would really like to learn, all are welcome. Contact Martha Sobie for more information.
GLC Mother’s Garden
Plant, weed, and water our Mother’s Garden and other planting beds in and around the church. A spring, summer, and fall serving opportunity. Contact Sandi Bowgren for more information.
