Worship Assistants

Coffee in the Middle

Hosts will provide treats and make coffee to serve to members and guests between services. Click here to sign up. More information will follow prior to your date with detailed instructions.

Feed My Starving Children

Be part of a team to pack nutritionally complete meals for children all over the world! GLC participates in packing events scheduled throughout the year at Feed My Starving Children. Contact Martha Sobie for more information. 

Northern Illinois Food Bank

Inspect, sort, and package food to be distributed to our hungry neighbors in Northern Illinois. GLC volunteers at Northern Illinois Food Bank once per month. Contact Martha Sobie for more information.

Each Sunday, a driver is needed to pick up approximately 12 boxes from Trader Joe’s (1942 W Fabyan Pkwy, Batavia) and deliver to Hesed House (659 S River St, Aurora to Door B) at 6 pm. Click HERE for more information or contact John Maisch.

Lazarus House Meal Preparation

Donate food items and help cook a fresh meal to feed the guests at Lazarus House. Second Sundays of the month. Contact Lisa Kanzler for more information. 

Hesed House Dinner Shift

Volunteers are needed to serve alongside Bethlehem Lutheran Church volunteers on five Friday evenings this year during the dinner shift at Hesed House.  Your role is to serve in the dinner line and kitchen, staff the “store”, and assist as needed. GLC + Holy Trinity Lutheran Church SOUP KETTLE

Prepare a meal with us at GLC and/or serve the meal with us at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin. Contact Dave Stoffel for more information.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Prayer Shawls are lovingly knit or crocheted, blessed, and wrapped around the shoulders of someone who needs comfort. Baby blankets and pocket prayer squares are also knit or crocheted. Whether you are experienced with knitting or crocheting, or would really like to learn, all are welcome. Contact Carol Wurtz for more information.

Nourish & Serve

Cook, bake, and serve! This ministry provides meals for those facing medical or other life challenges. In addition, GLC also hosts funeral luncheons that require salads, desserts, and helpers to serve in the kitchen. Would you like to be a part of this ministry? Quilters

Cut, tie knots, and sew! Quilts are delivered to local shelters and abroad via Lutheran World Relief. More than 100 quilts are made each year! No experience necessary. Contact Sally Harmon for more information.

GLC Mother’s Garden

Plant, weed, and water our Mother’s Garden and other planting beds in and around the church.  This is a spring, summer, and fall serving opportunity. Contact Sandi Bowgren for more information. 

Card Crafters

Hand-make cards for GLC members for 70+ birthdays, new babies, holidays, and more! Contact Sally Harmon for more information.

St. Andrew Food Distribution

Geneva Lutheran serves at St. Andrew Lutheran Church supporting and assisting weekly food distributions.  GLC volunteers gather Friday mornings at St. Andrew (West Chicago) to unload, unpack, sort and bag perishable and shelf stable goods in preparation for the next day’s distribution. GLC will also occasionally donate diapers, baby wipes and other personal hygiene items. GLC is grateful to partner with St. Andrew and other area churches and organizations to serve our neighbors in need.
