Construction beginning Summer 2026!

Dear Friends in Christ,

When you’re around Geneva Lutheran you are likely to hear me say something about making space. It’s the best way I can explain what Jesus is up to in the Gospel- there is space for us to join Jesus’ work in all kinds of ways.

Now making space is taking on new meaning…Making Space is the name of our capital campaign.

Making Space is about our actual space- making it possible to hear, to move around safely, to host musical groups, and more. It is also about making space to extend ministry by eliminating the debt incurred with the last building program in 2009; ministry that could be done through calling a second pastor, outreach, and community partnerships.

FAQ- What is the goal? The goal is to raise $2.5 Million over 5 years. This would pay for the sanctuary renewal, carrying costs for a construction loan, and pay off the current mortgage.
FAQ- How soon can we do it? Needed Sanctuary HVAC upgrades may begin as early as fall of 2024 and interior construction is slated to begin in June of 2025.

I’ve never been part of a building campaign as a parishioner or as a pastor. I’m excited that my first one is so connected to the mission to live generous lives in Christ. Thanks to our incredible team who has brought us this far. Now it’s a chance for all of us to join in the mission!

Pray! Whatever you may be moved to give, it will be grounded in a conversation with God first and with gratitude for all the gifts we have received.

Keep doing all the things you are already doing! Worship, prepare meals, volunteer, learn, and give to support our current work.

Start giving toward the Making Space campaign! You can give online using the link on our website or send a check with a note clearly marked for ‘Making Space Campaign’. You can also contact Lisa (office@genevalutheran.org) about stock donations including RMD’s (Required Minimum Distributions), or other modes of giving. If you’d like to pledge a foundational gift (pledge of $25,000 or more), contact Pastor Trudy  or Kraig Mickelsen to let us know of your plans. If you’re not ready to decide yet, there will be more information in coming in the fall.

The first gift: We received a card with a check for $100 for Making Space for Generosity from someone who hasn’t ever been to GLC. She watches online.

The first foundational gift: We have also received a foundational gift of $100,000.

My guess is that most of us will land somewhere in between those amounts. No matter where our gift lands, we will be challenged to go above and beyond our regular support of GLC’s work. I have no doubt that our congregation is ready to make space! Let’s pray together:

O God, you have called your servants to ventures of generosity. Give us faith to go forward with good courage, knowing that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

If you have any questions about the Sanctuary Renewal, please contact Brandy Hunter.

If you are interested in making a foundational gift, contact Kraig Mickelsen or Pastor Trudy Stoffel.
