Lots of folks have been talking to me about prayer. What should we be praying in these days? The first thing I’ll say is that asking for God to be present, saying thank you, and breathing are all acceptable and meaningful prayers. For those who prefer words, I looked in my ‘little green book’, a book for pastors that includes all kinds of interesting blessings and prayers including this one for the vocation (work) of Christians in the world. ‘Almighty God, look with favor upon us in our commitment to serve in Christ’s name. Give us courage, patience and vision; and strengthen us all in our Christian vocation of witness to the world and of service to others; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.’ This applies to our jobs, our work as parents or children, our work as a citizen, our work in civic organizations, well, everywhere. The prayer invites us to look at all of it through the lens of Christ’s love and service. Sounds like generosity to me! – Pastor Trudy Stoffel
