How does each Gospel tell the story of the resurrection differently?

All of the Gospels have at least one woman coming to the tomb.  In Mark, and Luke, they are coming to prepare the body for proper burial with spices.  In John and Matthew, they are coming to see the tomb.  All of the Gospels have an angel or angels, just not all at the same point in the story.  Matthew has an earthquake.  Both Mark and Matthew have the women running away… and that’s how the story ends in Mark!  In Matthew, Jesus meets them on the road as they run.  In Luke, Peter wants to go and see for himself because it was ‘idle talk’ or ‘women’s chatter’.  Take a few minutes this Holy Week to read each one (Matthew 28: 1-10; Mark 16: 1-8; Luke 24: 1-12; and John 20: 1-18).  Wherever you are on your faith journey; confusion, confidence, unsteadiness- you are likely to find yourself in the depth and breadth of the stories of resurrection! – Pastor Trudy Stoffel
