Youth are valuable members of the Body of Christ in their own right. Here at GLC, we work towards ensuring that each youth experiences God’s love by having a sense of community both with each other and the broader congregation. We look to our congregation to volunteer as leaders to create meaningful relationships and strong ties with all of our students.
Our middle school program focuses on Confirmation and discovering our spiritual gifts. This three year program for 6th, 7th, & 8th graders works towards fostering and growing community among the students and members of the congregation. We offer service projects, 7PM Ministries (puppet, chimes, art, and choir ministry), lock-ins, and week-long summer sleep away camp. Unique to our program, each 6th grader gets a secret Prayer Pal, a journal-er who is an older member of the congregation that commits to praying for the youth as well as writing (and responding to!) letters from their youth. This secret pen pal relationship continues for the duration of Confirmation. Confirmation meets as a group Wednesday evenings starting October 4, 5:30 – 7:30pm. Each meeting begins with a shared dinner.
Our high school youth group meets on selected Sundays, 10:15 – 11:15 am for conversations and catch-up times. We know high schoolers are busy, and respect their activities by offering fellowship events and service projects occasionally throughout the year. We also offer an annual week-long mission trip led by Pastor Trudy and other congregants; recent service sites include Detroit, MI; Nashville, TN; and Standing Rock, SD. This year, we are going to the ELCA Youth Gathering in Houston, TX. This year’s youth will be going to Houston, TX, for the ELCA Youth Gathering.
Please contact Pastor Trudy for more information regarding opportunities for youth.
