In October 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses onto the church door in Wittenberg. This marks the symbolic start of the Protestant Reformation, which means THIS October, in the year 2017, marks its 500 year anniversary!
At Geneva Lutheran Church, we’re participating in a variety of activities meant to honor this moment in the Christian Church’s history:
- Our weekly Thursday Bible Study is exploring Luther’s Small Catechism, a short pamphlet exploring the 10 Commandments, Apostle’s Creed, Lord’s Prayer, and Sacraments. Join us for these fruitful conversations! Every Thursday at 9:30am and 7pm. Handouts provided, just bring yourself.
- On October 14 from 11am-1pm, we’re hosting a Ladies’ Lunch with a special, historical guest, Katie Luther! As Martin’s wife and a former nun, Katie will enlighten us with her perspective on the Protestant Reformation. Women of ALL AGES are invited to this free event. Just RSVP to let us know you’ll be coming!
- On October 29 at 3pm, we will be hosting a joint worship service with St. Peter’s Catholic Church (Geneva). The choirs of both St. Peter’s and Geneva Lutheran will sing. Join us to celebrate our shared Christian heritage and beliefs! The joint service will be held at Geneva Lutheran Church.
- On November 9 at 7pm, Father Bakkelund from St. Peter’s and Pastor Trudy from Geneva Lutheran will participate in a Theology Talk. Geneva Lutheran’s Vicar Brittany will emcee the event. The floor will be open to questions, and Fr. Bakkelund and Pr. Trudy will provide Roman Catholic and Lutheran perspectives on important topics. St. Peter’s Catholic Church will host this event.
